Planning a trip to the Hawaiian Islands? Make your first stop the heart of our islands, O’ahu. On Oahu you are free to go at your own pace whether you’re busy each day or looking for some time of relaxation on this tropical paradise. There are spas, award-winning restaurants, world-class golf courses, shopping opportunities, and if that isn’t your style, beautiful beaches and resorts. O’ahu is a terrific place to start your trip through Hawaii.

O’ahu is the third-largest Hawaiian island and is known for its natural beauty, rich history, and diverse culture. Here are some suggestions for exploring and discovering O’ahu:

  1. Visit Waikiki Beach: Waikiki Beach is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Hawaii, and for good reason. It boasts stretches of sandy beaches lined by hotels, restaurants, & shops, gentle shore break perfect for swimming,  year round surfing, and sunbathing. Because you can catch a beautiful sunset almost every day of the year there are catamaran sailboats offering cruises from morning to night as well as beach boy surf lessons, and outrigger canoe rides.

  2. Explore the North Shore: The North Shore of O’ahu is known for its big waves, and attracts surfers from all over the world. It’s also a great place to explore the natural beauty of the island, with picturesque beaches, scenic drives, and lush forests. In the winter months you’ll be wowed by the power of the big surf and during the glassy water months of summer you can enjoy some great snorkeling spots in and around Shark’s Cove.

  3. Visit Pearl Harbor: Pearl Harbor is an important historic site in O’ahu, and a must-visit for anyone interested in learning about the events of World War II. You can take a tour of the USS Arizona Memorial, where you can pay your respects to the fallen sailors and learn about the attack on Pearl Harbor.

  4. Hike to the top of Diamond Head: Diamond Head is a famous volcanic crater on the eastern edge of Waikiki. Hiking to the top of Diamond Head offers panoramic views of the island and is a great way to get some exercise while enjoying the scenery. Be warned that visitors to Oahu need to book specific times to go online in order to limit the amount of people there at one time. There’s also a small fee to park. This is one of Oahu’s most popular and therefore busiest hikes but the view is worth it.

  5. Go to a Luau: A luau is a traditional Hawaiian feast, usually featuring roasted pig, hula dancing, and other cultural activities. There are many different luaus to choose from on O’ahu, and they offer a great way to experience Hawaiian culture and cuisine.

  6. Visit the Polynesian Cultural Center: The Polynesian Cultural Center is a living museum that showcases the history and culture of the Polynesian people. You can see traditional dances, try authentic food, and learn about the different island nations of the Pacific.

  7. Take a scenic drive: O’ahu has some beautiful scenic drives that are worth exploring. The Hanauma Bay Drive offers stunning ocean views, while the Tantalus Drive takes you through lush forests and up into the hills overlooking Honolulu.

These are just a few suggestions for exploring and discovering O’ahu. The island has much more to offer, from the stunning beaches to the historic sites and cultural experiences.
