HonoluluVibes.com is emerging as a new alternative lifestyle/tourism publication in the Honolulu area. Our goal is to develop a stimulating publication that is locally based but broad reaching. We have many opportunities available for internships with students who would like to:

  • gain experience in multi-media journalism
  • build a body of work for resumes, applications, etc.
  • put school based knowledge and skills to practical use
  • see their work published with a professional on-line magazine.

We’re looking for interns in the following fields:

  • business/marketing
  • graphic design with knowledge of CSS
  • journalism/creative writing
  • photography/videography/social media/SEO

HonoluluVibes.com creative department is currently seeking design interns & illustration interns interns to assist with website HonoluluVibes.com. The ideal candidate should be entering his/her junior or senior year of college, or have recently graduated. We are looking for individuals with strong design skills who have experience with page design and a strong working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite.

Job duties include:

  • Designing magazine features and monthly sections
  • Creating info graphics
  • Assisting on magazine collateral
  • Assisting with the website design and management (occasional)
  • Designing ads
  • Attending/assisting on photo shoots.

The ideal candidate MUST be able to follow instructions, respond professionally to critiques and function well in a highly collaborative environment. Scheduling and hours are very flexible.

Editorial Internships

HonoluluVibes.com editorial department is currently seeking editorial interns to become a part of our team. The ideal candidate should have an advanced knowledge of grammar, story structure and an eye for detail. We are looking for a student with strong writing, communication and research skills and is looking to pursue a career in the publishing field.

Candidates must be proficient with Microsoft Word or equivalent and comfortable speaking with sources of all kinds both over the phone and in person. Job duties may include: writing feature stories of various lengths, working as a team to develop story ideas, brainstorming and researching ideas thoroughly, conducting interviews, proofreading the magazine, fact checking all information and assisting photographers with photo shoots.

A self-starter who has a healthy sense of adventure will be best suited for this position. Ideal candidates will also have:

  1. A way with words and imagery
  2. Attention to detail
  3. The ability to work well as part of a team, as well as in a deadline-driven environment
  4. A working laptop
  5. A reliable form of transportation, as short-distance travel may be a part of the internship
  6. Strong organizational skills
  7. A wiliness to learn new styles of writing
  8. A working knowledge of or curiosity to know better, the island of Oahu

Although this is an unpaid, part-time internship, the candidate will have many opportunities to have their work published—which, in this industry, is worth its weight in gold. Photography Internships

Honoluluvibes.com is currently interviewing for a photography intern. We are looking for an energetic and detail-oriented individual. Candidates should have proficient knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and strong work ethic. InDesign and Web knowledge a plus. The photography intern will have the opportunity to gain experience in the publishing industry, work closely with editors and designers on the magazine. The ideal candidate will work well under deadline to perform duties in the preparation of HonoluluVibes.com online magazine materials such as, providing visual imagery to accompany articles, wild art photos, & assisting with lifestyle/editorial photoshoots.

This is an unpaid, part-time internship. Scheduling and hours are flexible.

The ideal candidate MUST be able to follow instructions, respond professionally to critiques and function well in a highly collaborative environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Schedule and Complete photo assignments
  • Retouch and color correct images
  • Archive files and artwork
  • Resize and upload images for the Web

Requirements:

  • College student working towards a degree in photography or equivalent field
  • Knowledge of digital photography and retouching a must
  • Must own a working professional quality camera
  • Knowledge of Photoshop or equivalent applications
  • Reliable transportation, as local travel within Honolulu or Oahu will be a part of the internship. We can work with limitations of bikes and busing line!
  • Must take direction and be able work collaboratively
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail necessary
  • Must work well in a deadline driven environment.
