A Festive Tradition Returns to Downtown Honolulu
Honolulu Hale is once again at the center of the city’s holiday celebrations, bringing the community together to mark the Christmas season and the start of a new year. This annual transformation turns the historic building into a hub for festive activities and decorations that draw both locals and visitors.

Decorations and Displays

The season kicks off with the Honolulu City Lights opening ceremony, highlighted by the lighting of a towering Christmas tree on the front lawn. The tree, decorated with colorful ornaments, reflects both traditional holiday themes and elements of Hawai‘i’s unique culture.

Inside Honolulu Hale, visitors can view decorated Christmas trees and wreaths designed by local groups. Each display features its own theme, ranging from classic holiday imagery to designs inspired by island life.

The front lawn also features the well-known Shaka Santa and Tūtū Mele statues. These larger-than-life figures have become a signature part of the celebration, offering a playful, Hawaiian twist on holiday traditions.

Events and Activities

The festivities include live music, hula performances, and activities for children. Local vendors set up craft fairs with handmade items, while food stalls serve a mix of holiday treats and Hawaiian favorites. Community organizations often host drives and events to support charitable causes during the holiday season.

A Community Tradition

The Honolulu Hale holiday events are a long-standing tradition, giving residents and visitors a chance to celebrate together. The decorations, events, and activities provide a way to mark the season and create lasting memories.

Whether you’re enjoying the displays, attending a performance, or stopping by for a family photo with Shaka Santa, the Honolulu Hale festivities offer a welcoming way to celebrate the holidays.
