In the heart of Waikiki, sitting above the buzzing streets of Kalākaua Avenue, Maui Brewing Companybrings together an overhead oasis of food, beer, and Hawaii vibes. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, this open-air brewery and restaurant offer a laid-back atmosphere that offers a respite from the bustling streets below.

Maui Brewing Company is Hawaii’s largest craft brewery started as a small, independent craft brewery on the island of Maui in 2005. Like most craft breweries they set out to create quality beer featuring the flavors of their locality and quickly became a leader in the craft beer scene while staying true to their commitment to sustainability and community.

One of the coolest things about this brewery is their sustainable brewing facility located in Kihei, Maui. The facility is powered by a solar grid that provides nearly 100% of its electricity, supplemented by a battery storage system and a backup biodiesel generator. They take water conservation seriously, recycling water from the brewing process whenever possible. Spent grain from brewing is repurposed as feed for local livestock, and the brewery uses eco-friendly packaging, including recyclable cans instead of bottles. These practices not only reduce their environmental impact but also align with the company’s core values of caring for the land (mālama ʻāina) and fostering a sense of responsibility toward Hawaii’s natural resources.

They host two locations on the island of Oahu in Waikiki and in the small beach town of Kailua on the Windward side. Their Waikiki location serves up a rotating selection of their finest creations. From flagship brews like the refreshing Bikini Blonde Lager and citrusy Big Swell IPA to seasonal and experimental brews, there’s something to satisfy every palate. As one would expect in a brew pub beer flights are a popular choice, you can order flights with sets of 4 – 4oz glasses to sample any of their beers on tap.

For those craving something different, Maui Brewing also offers creative cocktails, locally-inspired hard seltzers, and non-alcoholic options like craft sodas and house-made lemonades.

The Food: More Than Just Pizza

We are always on the lookout for places with good pizza and so far Maui Brewing Co. is at the top of our list with its crisp crust (made with their Bikini Blonde lager), house-made sauce, and premium toppings – locally sourced whenever possible. Traditional plain cheese or pepperoni are always on the menu along with some more unique island inspired options like the Kalua Pork pizza with barbecue sauce and pineapple. Anytime you see this option on a menu – give it a try! You’ll fall in love with the smoked pork flavors of the Hawaiian luau pig slow-cooked in an underground oven.

Beyond pizza, the menu features an array of shareable appetizers, fresh salads, and hearty entrees all presented with an island flavor twist.

The Vibes: Open-Air Bliss Above Waikiki

The open-air design is one of Maui Brewing Company’s most alluring features. The rooftop location offers a view of the bustling streets below and a steady ocean breeze enhancing the island experience. The interior offers laid-back vibes with ample seating, high-top tables, cozy booths, and a spacious long bar. This isn’t the place for an intimate date or quiet conversation, it’s built to handle large crowds and makes a great spot for families, casual dates, or groups of friends. In fact, the place is large enough that they often rent out portions of the restaurant for large groups & private parties.

Evenings often feature live music from talented local artists, adding an ambient soundtrack with more soul than canned music. Although they also have a few tv’s around the bar for sports enthusiasts.

We recommend this brew pub and restaurant for its quality craft beer laid-back atmosphere and great pizza. Maui Brewing Company is a perfect destination in Waikiki if you’re seeking a casual spot to catch up with friends, a fun evening of live music, or a place to indulge in pizza and beer after a day at the beach!
